I did my Eng Lang A Level some years ago and now am keen to return to study. I'd really like to take my degree in Eng Lang, but it surely can't be wise to jump straight in after a long gap (14 years)? Does anywhere offer courses that serve as a brush up (if that makes sense)?

Maybe you could see if your local college has any access courses which will warm you up nicely. Also, there are very often study guides, classes and mentors which will help you at the university itself if you're thinking of taking the plunge.

May of the folk on my degree are mature students, and many of them are dyslexic, so as you can imagine there's all sorts of help waiting for them. Also, many didn't do A Levels and just did the foundation Art course, which is no way as heavily essay-based as A Levels.

I think the things you'd have to worry about most are: being able to organise your time; being able to sit and concentrate for long periods; and still being able to write a lucid, intelligent and unpretentious essay (as Adrian Mole would say). Also, it's a matter of confidence, and I think you have an advantage, being older and more worldly wise, you know better how things work in life, which in turn can be applied to your studies.

English Language sounds like fun! Good luck!

I haven't been in a classroom formally for several years now. In the last couple of months I have started doing an Open University Introduction Course, as this will get me into the habit of studying on a regular basis, next year I will be starting a BA in English Literature.

Lots of colleges/universities now offer foundation degrees. This would probably be a gentler way of returning to studying.

With the advertising/advertising and marketing, i've got faith they'll seem for somebody who had a level in those particular factors...exceptionally once you seem on the U.S. financial gadget those days, they are going to be choosy while choosing an worker.
