I just purchased this home not too long ago and this neighbor complained to me about noise coming from my home at night, so I told her I would work on it and now I just close my windows and she says that has helped. But NOW she's saying that at night time could we park our car in the back by the garage instead of by our door (which is more convenient for us) because she can hear doors slamming and it wakes her up. I think that she is being very unreasonable because we don't SLAM the doors we close them regulary just like anyone else. She has approached my mom one morning about this saying "I have told you about the slamming doors before you are disturbing the whole neighborhood if this keeps up it is going to be trouble" she yelled all this through her window. Should I agree to just park in the back by the garage and let her have her way? When the winter time comes it's gonna be headache having to park back there especially with my young children.

Just to add some more info guys: This lady lives alone with her pets and she looks to maybe be about 35-40yrs. of age so she's not an old lady then I would understand. My husband gets off from work at 12:00 -1:00 in the morning and we go to work sometimes at 6:00 a.m. And our houses are not that close we have a big driveway but her room window is upstairs near the driveway but it's not like her bedroom window is downstairs RIGHT NEXT to the driveway.

Oh hell no!!!! She's just going to have to deal with it. I strongly suggest next time she complains politely say: "Ma'am, we're trying to do everything we can to accomodate you, but we are not going to inconvenience ourselves or our family for you. Sorry"
This woman will always be complaining about something. You'll never please her. So don't aggravate yourselves trying.

Tell her you heard about how people could save lots of money by making sure their houses were well insulated against the weather. And how another nice effect of better windows/insulation is less noise from outside.
Maybe suggest that it is not your car doors, rather she has trouble sleeping, which is a common ailment of people her age. She needs to consult her doctor and get sleeping pills.
Suggest she do something. Odds are she will be completely unwilling to make any change to her own routine, and you can be sure that she is being unreasonable. If, on the extremely small chance, she does take you up on some suggestion, you should try to close your car doors more quietly.

It may be that she just needs to interact with people. Perhaps you could try to get to know her a little (within reason). She may just need a friend and is instead reaching out through complaints. Sometimes a little kindness and love can take care of these annoying problems.
I could also be wrong. We get annoyed with our noisy neighbors too, but they have those very loud, booming stereos in their vehicles. They tend to sit in their driveway and listen to them for literally hours at a time. Maybe she needs to sleep with a fan or air purifier running to gently drown out any sudden noises. It would be bad if she was truly such a light sleeper, but you can only do so much.

It sounds like you've made some changes to appease your sensitive neighbor, but I think it's too much for her to complain about car doors closing, unless you have dozens of people doing it.
I'd suggest she sleep with a white noise machine in her bedroom or else wear ear plugs because she's obviously more sensitive than the average person and she needs to take some responsibility for that.

Unless you have some kind of homeowner's asscociation that has an ordinance or policy against door slamming, then she doesn't have any right to say anything. For pete's sake, she lives in a suburban neighborhood and neighbors are just a fact of life. I would ignore her and just document her complaints for reference. Then, if she takes it to the next level of involving the law, you will have evidence and she will just look stupid.

Find out what the laws saying about the amount of during certain hours. Then you can go to like Radio Shack and buy a sound meter. Confirm whether or not your breaking the law. If you not point it out to them and tell them next time to call the police and to leave you alone or your going to file harassment charges against them for trying to violate your civil/public rights.
