the volume of the gas would increase, and the particles would be spread out even more

I learned this years ago, but if you write PTV on a strip of paper and hold it by the letter that you are keeping constant, it will tell you how the others react. P= Pressure T= Temperature V= Volume. In this case you know that the volume of the gas is goin to increase, and you are not changing the amount of gas in the new container, so less substance in a bigger container means lower pressure. So if P is decreasing and V is increasing, the temperature will remain the same. If you were adding more gas to keep the pressure constant and moving it to a bigger container, the volume would obviously increase, but since you are holding the P and lifting the V, the temperature would also have to go up.
Hope this helps.

Well first you have to assume that the temperature remains constant, and there was no loss during the transfer. Assuming both these hold true, the gas would expand to fill the new container. This means that the volume increases, the density decreases, and the mass remains constant. I am assuming there was nothing in the larger container...

Nature prefers even distribution so eventually the gas particles would disperse evenly throughout the container... unless there were a heavier or "lighter" gas that kept that from happening already in the container.

The average distance between the particles would increase as the gas expanded to fill the larger volume.

The particles would be happier since they have more room to move around in the larger container.

Gas will always expand to fill whatever container it is in.
