I might suggest laying him across your knees (on a pad) and swaying your knees as you pat and rub his back. That worked for my youngest, My daughter was the one that needed bouncing on the knees and my oldest needed to be on the shoulder and patted. The stomach opening is on the right side of the body and sometimes it helps to lay the child on his left side so the gas can move upward towards the opening as you pat his back.
Each of my little ones were different as night and day, you are just going to have to find his way.... I would try everything befor I continued with the feeding to avoid the productive burb.
Good luck and congratulations on having a new son!

Did you try the sit up method? Sit him on your knee hold his chin & chest a little forward over the stomach and pat his back. This was the only way my daughter burped. Give 1-2 ounces formula
1- I never got a burp, but I worked better at 2. Good Luck.

Only thing the doctor offered me was smaller and more frequent feedings, (ie instead of 4-5 ounces per sitting every 4 hours, give 2-3 and feed every 2 hours) Good Luck, sorry!

look at the way you are burping him..mabye ? sometimes when my girl guzzles down her bottle like crazy i have to wait until she slows down her sucking then i try various different positions to burp her, just shifting her around sometimes causes her to burp without my actually patting her back...there are ways to get that burp out of him, experiment.

The formula that charlie is talkin about is gentle lease, we had to switch my son to that a 2 weeks old because of gas an spitup. Also my doc recomendes less formula more often. When your baby gets older and starts eating more he said to prevent that you give them more formula with cereal less often. Hope that helps. good luck

GOOD LUCK!

Maybe he just doesn't need to burp. Babies (and the rest of us) only burp because we have swallowed extra air. Maybe he just doesn't have air in there to burp up....good luck :-)
