Am I the only person who has actually read the Detainee bill and understands the full implications of using it?

Doesn't the suspension of Habeas Corpus seem like an extreme violation of one of our basic human rights? And do you guys know that NOBODY is immune from this, not even lawful citizens of the US. What happens if a mistake is made and some poor bastard is locked up without any legal recourse, gets tortured daily, and nobody, not even the Supreme Court can do anything about it?

And please stop spouting that crap about being sympathetic to terrorists. I'm worried that this law has huge potential to be abused in the future.

Oh yeah, Clammy. If we are treating detainees better than our own prisoners, why is there a provision buried deep within this bill that retroactively protects the executive branch from being prosecuted for violating the Geneva Convention which every civilized nation in the world agreed too? If we are treating them ok, why is this needed?

And by the way, I graduated with a law degree from Harvard. Anyone still think I don't know what I'm talking about?

Do you really think we are going to torture detainees after we have been treating them better than inmates in our prisons? That bill was passed so that it is possible to INTERROGATE them. Why do liberals whine so much about issues like this? They are soooo sympathetic to the poor terrorists.

Congress voted, and the President signed, a invoice that actually ends the yank Republic, plenty because of the fact the permitting Act in 1933 ended the Weimar Republic. without habeas corpus, the definitions of who could be held are meaningless, in view that no courtroom listening to would be held to project the retaining. i'm no longer a Democrat, and that i'm no longer a "liberal". i'm a far off relative of the trees, and a patriot.

No, you are not the only person to feel that way, and you are not the only person who thinks they understand it, but that doesn't mean you have a clue what you're talking about.

I know you probably don't realize we're at war, and that's okay, people have a right to ignore reality if they want to, and even vote according to their fantasy world, but just for a moment, pretend that you DO believe we are at war, that someone you find worthy of your trust is in the White House , and imagine that the intent of this is to only be used against the enemies of the U.S. who are actively making war on the U.S.

Would you STILL think it was excessive?

Of course you wouldn't. Get over your media-created hate for Bush and relax. The sky is NOT falling.

Not at all but government never gives back what it takes. The more laws that are passed the less freedom we have. It's not the President's fault, it's the dumb voters who elect those kinds of people to office. We are 9 trillion dollars in debt, when is enough enough.

While everyone is worrying about Foley, Bush is getting in our pants. I would not be surprised if he violates the election process in one way or another; possible he will not leave office so he can protect U.S. from terrorism.

No and no. Bush already abuses the power he has as President, why should we give him even more rope to hang us with?

I am not concerned at all about President Bush. It's the Democrats and especially hillary socialist clinton that concerns the hell out of me.

Your question is meaningless.
It has nothing to do with your life unless you are part of what is threatening OUR nation.
