It's nice to see a politician having the gumption to say what the rest of the country (non-muslim) has been grousing about for too long.

Absolutely! I can imagine women having to wear them in places like Afghanistan and places where the extreme 'thought police' control everyone (ie the Taliban) but here in the UK? I don't like to be critical as I believe everyone is entitled to their own religious beliefs and to dress how they like but that's taking things to extreme in my opinion.
I quite agree with those who say immigrants MUST learn to speak English too. Quite right. One thing which irks me more than anything else is their total lack of integration by most (not all!) into British life. Wasn't it Norman Tebbit who said they should only come if they support the English Cricket Team? That was a ridiculous metaphor but basically I agree with the sentiment - too many cliques/ghettos where they still live as they did in their own country - own clothes, speak their own language, eat the same food - makes you wonder why they came here at all sometimes - send daughters 'back home' (isn't HERE supposed to be their home then?) to find a husband, send them "home" when they die and so on and so forth.
So yes, it is. I'm with you on this and before someone jumps down my/our throats, NO i'm NOT a racist. I just think this influx of immigration especially the new EU countries is too much. Can't get a home despite being on the council waiting list for over 6 years - there are no homes in the areas I want. Probably going to these assylum seekers and families from 'back home'?.

I'm American & frankly, I don't give a rat's a*s what anyone does with their face. Just don't try to tell me that I have to do it or you'll be wearing that veil around your neck! What happens if the Police want to compare their faces to the photo ID? Do they refuse to cooperate? As an American woman, I think this is playing with fire in the public safety arena!

I agree a 100%, lets see what they are trying to hide. The biggest insult is, with the bombings that have taken place that they are still hiding, I would make it a law for all this type of head gear to be banned, and also hoodies, I think that people wearing them are up to no good.

I can see his point because racist people only see the veil but at the end of the day some Muslim women are happier with their veils on and that's their prerogative. Being happy within themselves is more important.

Definitely, we are expected to remove the crucifix from school and church walls etc, we have to call Christmas by a different name, lets have a bit of parity and have them change the name of Ramadan in case it offends us.
We have to remove skid-lids to enter petrol stations or public buildings, how do they get exemption when wearing a burka?
How do we know it's not a bloke under that gear??

Much as I hate to admit it, yes he is right.
I am a member of the "last minoroity". Billions of people all over the world will at least tacitly acknowledge my right to "Freedom of Religion". Not enough will grant me the right to freedom FROM religion.

If you think a rant by a Jewish guy is a good guide to Islam and its activities then you haven't really thought it over as you think. If such talk was from an unbiased source then go for it. It is like asking OBL what he thinks of Christianity.

I wonder how many times I'd be stopped by the police if I wore a balaclava whilst walking down Oxford street?
