Everything you do to communicate through a public network CAN be read.

Text messages are sent via a variety of transfer points, and each point in the network has to store it for some minumum amount of time.

How often these servers are "cleansed" would be a question to ask your provider - assuming your text messages are local to them. If you text somebody using another provider, they might also keep your messages.

Text is so easily compressed that it is almost cost-free to hold on to text messages on a server.

And remember, the receiver ALWAYS has your text messages.

Yes, just about anyone can with an encoder and decoder. Anything you send over the airways can be caught and read or listened to depending on what your sending. Get the book, The Poor Man's James Bond, by Kurt Saxon and you probably want to become a recluse once you find out how easy it is.

No, unless you save the IMs on your hard drive and they come get that. Or at least that's what I've been hearing in the news as they talk about the IMs going back and forth beween Foley and those underage pages.
