Quality is an obvious answer. Gas mileage is also a big factor. Style, fit'n'finish, durability, cost, and customer service are other major factors.

Every American car I've bought has been a piece of crap. They break down constantly. They always have mechanical problems. I now own a Subaru and it rocks! Gas mileage is good, and it's AWD. I had to replace the starter at 50,000 and paid NOTHING!!! I love it. My next car will probably be another Subaru.

because any consumer report will tell you they are better then American cars, and they last way longer too, thats why i bought my toyota scion xb, it got a really high rating in consumer reports, a friend of mine has a 2006 ford focus, it doesn't even have power locks and windows!
my parents will never buy an American car again, they have had so many problems! japanese cars all the way!

Thats an excellent question...I bought Jap cars for several years... saved a ton of money on gas... spent all of it and more when they broke down...I have been driving American since 1991,, so far so good....

Because it's been my experience the Toyotas are much better built and reliable than the Fords and Chevys.

alot of times thses cars are cheaper to buy becasue the labor force building them are not paid as much as their american counterparts. and unfortunatly it is true that even though they are cheaper to buy they last alot longer and the craftmansship is much better...it would be easier to justify paying more for american cars if they would last longer and be backed by stronger warrenties....
