Please keep in mind that patriotism is the "Love of and devotion to one's country"

While nationalism is the "Devotion to the interests or culture of one's nation. The belief that nations will benefit from acting independently rather than collectively, emphasizing national rather than international goals. Aspirations for national independence.

Will we become isolationists?

As americans have we been given the freedom to choose? Have we somehow already voted on these changes?

Should we not be concerned?

When are we going to wake up? Or are we as a society just too busy with our personal drama in our lives to take notice? Are we just not in the mood to be inconvenienced with confronting the truths? Are we too busy with greed, watching reality shows that aren't real? listening to faux media? preaching the double moral standards? or are we just simply "obeying" like sheep?

Just where are we as americans heading to?

Good questions, all.

I think we skipped nationalist and went right to isolationist. When the Republicans fall - and they will (as if you have not seen the headlines) - the next President will have to work very hard to repair the damage that has been done to our integrity as a nation in the World's eyes. We must become a peaceful nation, and one that is willing to work with the international community once again.

You're still being far too general. An entire race of people in a country isn't 'one thing.' Everyone in america isn't a patriot or a nationalist or anything, we're just people.

These are jingoistic, loaded words that mean next to nothing in the real world.

I would say that as a result of the Iraq war certain people:

have become more patriotic
have become less patriotic
have become more nationalistic
have become less nationalistic
trusts the government more
trusts the government less.

That's the way us humans are - diverse and individual.

For sure there is no nationalism here in the US. People are more pridful of where there parents come from. People will have mexican flags outside, on thier car, or german flags, it jsut depends where your family is from, and thats the country you identify yourself with. Being isolationist would be good for our country. If we cant play well with others than we shouldnt play at all. The truth is that we are at war. Do the people care. Not reallly. Does it affect thier lives? Not really. So its no big deal to them. I think that americans know whats going on, but they dont really care. They might have opinions about issues, but what can they do? because of this there is no change. Also religion is just messing up ou society and keeping us from advancing. good question.

Having the Bush Adminstration be over may not finish the clash in Iraq. That's usual feel. The Iraq conflict may not finish the moment the following president takes oath. Further he has promised troop discounts within the close long run. Take center. As for American Idol. The indicates' simplest on for two nights for Pete's sake. I can get information on Iraq 24/7 whilst I desire it. I individually do not select one over the opposite... AI is a holiday froom the scoop that all of us want. I do not uncover this a fair argument. Is this a uncover-the-details web page, as in Ask Jeeves, or a web publication web page...??

I really do hope America falls back into being isolationists. Focus on your own problems. Don't forget- not all 'evil doers' live in the middle east. SOme live in your backward. I believe that the American state is moving towards a fascist state...

The Iraq war is a similar phenomenon to the Vietnam war. It is causing more anarchy and bipartisanism.

You make some great points.

I'd never considered the distinction between "patriots" and "nationalists."

Food for thought.
