You know... Tom Cruise's stance on postpartum depression, Pamela Anderson's involvement with PETA, Tim Robbin's love of Bush-bashing, etc...etc...etc (ad infinitum)
Does any of that really make a difference?
Would a celebrity's opinion sway your own?
I mean... they're entertainers... NOT politicians, right?

There is a saying, often attributed early to commentators on Barbara Striesand, "Shut up and sing!"

Some celebrities are worth listening to. There was one who became a pitchman for wood polish because he was really good at making furniture since he wasn't making movies anymore. Poor June Allison promoted Depends, the diapers for seniors because she was having a bladder control problem. When Doris Day spoke up about animals, she could eloquently speak with authority and experience also. And of course, Ronald Reagon was no fool when he talked politics, even for those who disagreed with him.

But most were idiots, when Cruise spoke of postpartum depression I wasn't listening. When Brooke Shield spoke, I was all ears. Martin Sheen may have played a great president because of good directing and scripts, but he was a lousy mayor, unlike Clint Eastwood. Alec Baldwin can talk, but I'd rather listen to Charleton Heston even after he got Alzheimers.

Does it matter? Sometimes, often not.

I honestly don't listen to a thing celeb's say. They are paid to act, not to give us their opinion on how the world should be ran. If I ever see someone like Tim Robbins, I just want to say to them "You're an actor...really, what do you know of running a country? Just because you have played a politician on the big screen does not mean you are qualified to be one in real life."

Another pet peeve of mine...celeb news shows, like Extra or Hollywood Access. I mean, there are countless newsworthy stories but they are concerned with Jennifer Lopez's new dress. Please, give me a break. What makes a person more important just because they are a celebrity? And when did we as non-celebrities begin to accept that if someone is in a movie, they are more important that us?

Not in the slightest . They are "easy come-easy go"- there will be another one along tomorrow . I avoid the so-called entertainer who tries to lecture on what they don't like about my country . The country that brought their dumbness fame & fortune .
There are many now being avoided at the box office ; losses on audiences and it's the only way we can show them what they can do with their opinions . It's amazing how my once faves became vermin as soon as they opened their mouths trying to form a rational thought . Who needs them . .

no their opinion does not sway my thinking. These people live in the minority of the population. They do not have to face the same issues or situations that most of the rest of us do. Now everyone is intitled to their own opinion but if the average joe went around voicing theirs the way these celebrities do they would be considered eccentric.....I belive stongly that alot of their opinions involve some kind of back end monatary gain....

I dont change my views for any one person unless they can convince me that Im a screwball about how I think about things.

The only thing that I may change if I hear a celebrity say something ( and not the hearsay of reporters) is my mind about them. I may have thought at one time for instance that Tom Cruise was great until he opened his mouth about the ppd, now Im not so fond of him...( this is an example!)

No it wouldn't sway my own opinions. Sometimes it's a little entertaining to know a celebrity's point of view on a specific topic or issue but NO way does it influence my feelings or beliefs.

GOOD QUESTION!!!

Only when the opinions are ignorant. It helps me choose whose movies and music to avoid.

I.e. Tom Cruise and post-partum depression or Brittany Spears and supporting the president because he is the president.

I ignore all of them. Just because they have the platform doesn't make them right. They think they have the answers, like many others, but unless they are getting inside information they as much as the rest of us. And that is only what the media wants us to know.
