Wow! I had a man who was so small he struggled and struggled to pull one of my teeth, so I cant even imagine a woman attempting this, she was, committed to take it out, she failed. Gross negligence, IF the Oral Surgeon is willing to be your witness, if no witness, its your word against hers, so ask him. Ok about the being put under part. That was a discussion to have in advance, you just didnt know that. It is sometimes impossible for the office manager to be sure that it will be covered. My insurance company had a policy that 5 teeth must be removed or other special circumstances, and I had to pay a huge copay to the Drs and then get reimburst. Some insurance situtations, need to see what wound up being done, to be able to confrence with thier own Drs (on staff at the ins company) and then determine if it was a special case or not. I was pretty upset when it was covered, but, the insurance company told me when I called the same thing the office manager had said, so thats how that works. They cant always promise, that way, they, the Drs office knows they will get paid one way or the other, if they contacted you later and said not covered a patient could say well I would not of done it, and the Dr is out of thier money. About refering you to an oral surgeon, yes, she should of said ok we are not doing this proceedure today, heres who I recommend, but because you are cancelling today, when I could of performed work on someone else, you will be paying cash for the missed appointment since it is your choice, and no fault of our own. A Dr does not, and should not be expected to list all the things going on with a proceedure thats above what they will do, we as patients need to think long and hard, and ask questions well in advance and make determinations after we gather our information. There could be 200 questions, and its not fair for a Dr to be expected to sit for half an hour or longer answering all these questions, when there are paying customers in the waiting room, and people calling trying to make appointments. I am NOT excusing this poor excuse of a Dentist. Call immediately and report her to the American Dental Board, the Better Business Burea and any other Dental related boards you come across, so that noone has to suffer through this. If she cant pull teeth, she needs to not be allowed to, she cant make safe descisions, so she needs her liscence suspended, end of story. I cant even imagine the pain you were in, so very sorry to hear that. You can contact a lawyer if you can afford to pay them, pay filing fees, and wait a few years while its fought in court, if you have HMO type dental insurance, you might not even be able to sue so look into that by calling the insurance company. I hope your feeling better, and now, ask questions way before proceedures are done, some people dont numb easily, and some drs cheapen out, I have had both situations, so I dont know if its me or the Dr being cheap. I will warn you, that laughing gas stuff, never ever did a thing for me, and I tried it 3 times, and the mask distracted me, but was never charged since it was apparent it didnt do what it should of done. Make sure to discuss this at length, and submit a hand written letter to the insurance company, they need to drop her ONCE THEY PAY HER so you dont get a bill, dont doubt a bill could come, and its your credit right.............I had a copay returned once, it turned out, the Dr billed for or was paid for inquiring about being put to sleep when I was not, so they..........split it with me instead of returning it, no wonder why insurance cost so much, theres so much fraud, so the copay was returned, and then another check came. Thats the time I tried laughing gas, what a joke, it does nothing. The tooth pulled was the worst job I ever had, and the Dr talked to a friend that was visiting during my extractions, Dentists are the WORST.
