"Phantom" is one of my all time favorite musicals and I have tickets to see the show at the end of the month. I've heard that pieces of the original show have been cut out. How does it affect the overall story?

Saw it about six weeks ago. Most of the scenes cut have to do with the Phantom's
'back story", the Joseph Buchet scenes [they cut out the pujab lasso references], some of the Madame Giry & Meg Giry scenes, the Diva Carlotta scenes are trimmed and the rehersal scene for the Don Juan opera is cut. All of the important scenes remain, as does 95% of the score. And, yes, it is truly spectacular - as only Vegas and $75,000,000 can produce. The chandelier alone is in four enormous pieces and cost almost $5,000,000!!!

One of friends is one of the ballerinas in the production in Las Vegas. She told me that when they found out that some of the less important scenes would be cut, they were all surprised. While you are watching the show, you seem to know they are not there, but the productions makes up for it with it's theatrics. I would definitely still see it, but if you are not satisfied in the end, just watch the movie to make up for what was missing.
