An acrostic is a passage designed so that the first or last letters in each line spell out a phrase. The term also refers to a variant form of word puzzles, combining crossword clues with a fill-in-the-blank grid that reveals a hidden quote or saying.

An example: (look at the first letter in each line)

Nearly everyone who solves crossword puzzles
Obviously enjoys the more complicated forms
Which rely upon more than just word knowledge
Yet they can create a real challenge
On top of the difficulty of recognizing definitions
Users also have to use other intellectual skills
Kind of like a cross between crosswords and trivia
Not everyone likes them but that's really kind of
Obvious, I guess.
When you get a chance, try one. Maybe you'll love it!
