I think it depends on the quality of the song. If it isn't set as MP3, then it uses more space. I'm not sure if the IPOD automatically formats the songs as MP3.
if they are set up like memory sticks, they can get the message because the files are in a 'root' directory, which has a limit as far as number of files. the files get moved to another drive, then sub directories are created, then the files can be moved into those directories. this will free up a lot of space.

I'm surprised you even got 10 songs on it. A 1GB Ipod holds very few songs. You'll have to purchase an Ipod that has more storage space.

you should be able to get around 200 songs on a 1gb i pod. Check that they have been converted to mp3 files before putting them onto your player.

I had a similiar prob with my Ipod Shuffle, I allowed data to be stored on it so that it would show up on Explorer then formatted it and started it afresh.

to try this, first you will desire to take your USB ipod cord and plug it into your new pc, and the different end into your ipod classic. some thing would desire to pop up onto your pc asking in case you desire to import stuff out of your itunes library right into a clean library. Say confident, which you somewhat desire to, and it will in all risk take a protracted time, yet nonetheless would desire to artwork. desire that enables!! =)))

You should try restoring your iPOD. That will erase everything but then this problem might be fixed.
