Just add 'http://' at the beginning so that the webpage address look like
http://www.website.ext
or
http://website.ext
format.
E.g. http://www.yahoo.com
Only this much will work.

Okay, what you do is this: Go up to the address box at the top of the page. Put your mouse at the end of the address or even in the middle of the address, then you RIGHT CLICK on that address and highlight the word COPY.
First I recommend you open another window with your friends email address ready. Then, write your message and then right click the link you have chosen in the body of the email. Just like I did in the box below with that address.
I hope this helps you. This is how I have been sending links to my family and friends for ever since I can recall.

There are some good suggestions about how to capture the entire address properly, but making it an actual clickable link depends on what the recipient is using to READ the email. If they're using Outlook, there are a number of different options on how they want Outlook to display the incoming messages, and not all of the possible combinations will leave the link as clickable.

As it is different for every e-mail program, would help if you listed the e-mail you use.
If it is Yahoo, type the link (or some words you want then to click) into the email.
Go back and highlight it.
Click on the link icon in the menu above the email
Enter the address into the box that appears

Ususally, if you write out the link as a full address, most browsers will recognise this and convert it to a hyperlink for you.
Otherwise, if you are using IE as your browser, you can highlight the words you want to be a link, right click, and select "insert hyperlink". From there, you just put in the address and what tyou want the link to say in your email.
be sure to use the full form of the address - http://www.yourlink.com

Copy the website address. Then you should find a tab in the window where you are writing the e-mail which says "insert hyperlink". Just click it, and the paste the url in there.
