Anything in the poplar family will grow quite fast, however they're quite prone to ice, wind or disease and rather short-lived.
You can also try Yoshino Cherry (the same one they use around the Tidal Basin in Washington D.C.) Keep it reasonably watered and they grow very very fast, and you'll get bright white/pink flowers in the spring.
If you can be a bit patient, try Red (NOT SILVER) Maple or Red Oak. They don't grow as fast, but they're more durable.

Try a Paloma tree they do well in the warmer climets they grow fast have huge leaves giving a lot of shade and are good wood trees in a shorter time than most trees.

I believe a Cottonwood trees grow very fast and can get real big. they grow just about any where, all you need is a branch put in the ground.
