When we work long and hard we are supposed to get some kind of reward, either a raise and/or promotion or a big "thank you" from the boss. Entry level jobs are pretty disposable, as are the people employed to do them. The worker who "hustles" and clearly is trying to do a seriously good job will get the promo even if he/she is not the most talented. Ambition feeds upon itself. The money being earned is an afterthought for an ambitios person. They are there to learn all they can and to keep looking behind them to see who may be catching up with them. That is why we often end up with managers who only know how to operate to keep ahead of those coming up. It is a sad, tragic thing that a display of ambition is given so much weight. Saddest of all, I think, is the person who works at top speed and produces quality work and feels for many years that he or she is respected and looked up to, may well find upon retirement that all that "capital" comes to nothing. You leave and they replace your talented butt with some young thing that hasn't a clue. But, they are paid much less than you. Capitalism, the best system known to mankind, is often ruthless, unless you have a boss or business owner who values humanity more than money. And there are a lot of such people. Only God knows how many.
By the way, a good street cleaner is a talent needed and that should be appreciated. Dental hygienists tend to get the job then get married and quit. Or so a dentist once told me. Nothing wrong with giving one who does backbreaking work a wage equal to those who work in relative comfort, etc.

Because as Jim Morrisson put it 'you're all a bunch of f***ing slaves'. Cogs in the machine. Collateral and dispensible.
Driving buses pays much better, but isnt stress free. I think you may have the right idea. Do you feel more relaxed and better as a person? Can you feel your humanity coming back? If so, stick with it, all labour for a good cause is honourable, even if snobs can't see it.

Because the rich keep getting richer and we are spending all of our money on war rather than education for tomorrows leaders.
