i have this too and my manicurist told me its because I crach my knuckles too much. Thats one habit I cant break so he told me to go to target and buy this 4 sided rectanglular cube. Each side does a different thing, file, smooth, something, and shine. It works great and its 2 dollars

You can buy 4 way buffering blocks for nails from Boots.

Just rub them across the nail surface according the instructions.

You can always treat yourself to a professional manicure and get advice from them for after care.

The ridges on the nails are from vitamin deficiency and will not be smooth. Buffing the nails will make them shiny, but not smooth.

buy a buffing kit
buffering is slowly smoothing out nails and then shining them
