I know Yahoo news says there is a Pumpkin shortage....but here in Michigan, there doesn't seem to be. So I would say, either drive to Michigan (then we will have one too) or buy a ceramic or plastic one just for this year, go back to carving next year. So sad...

I haven't heard of the shortage as of yet...so first off thank you for the heads up.
Watermelons or gourds also make great Jack O'Lanterns and, unlike pumpkins and watermelons, gourds don't rot but can be saved for years to come.
