REAL rolex have a serial number underneath where the wristband connects with the body of the watch.
And that is the only way to know.

Look at the second hand. A Rolex runs smoothly, imitations are jerky.

First of all, it will not run on a battery. Secondly, the second hand "sweeps" rather than "ticks". Thirdly, it will be heavy and solid. If it is gold, it will say "18k" on the back of the watch. Take it to a jeweler, a good one can tell you if it is real in 30 seconds.

The second hand has a smooth movement and there should be a serial number on the back.
