Slate magazine has said that Mark Foley is more likely an ephebophile than a pedophile ... does it really matter which one he is "labeled" as ... does it change your opinion of him?

It doesn't excuse what he did or change my opinion of him, but I think the correct term should be used. Because someone is attracted to a 16 year old (ephebophile) does not mean he is attracted to an 8 year old (pedophile).

The word pedophile is a label that will ruin someone's life forever and shouldn't be tossed around willy nilly. There are now reports that the IM recipient was 18 years old, but Mark Foley's life has been ruined. I think we need to let the investigation and eventual charges say what he is.

My guess is that everyone knew Foley was gay but just ignored that. When they heard about the "gay behavior" with a young page, they thought of it as creepy rather than pedophilia. While the age is a big deal to me, I would assume since it was widely known in Foley's district that he was gay, it was not a big deal to the folks back home. In particular, those parents who decided it was okay to send their young boys to work for a known gay man.

Not at all. He's nasty. My guess is that if the other party is 18 years of age, it's because that's as close he could legally get to being with a child. Like the men's mag Barely Legal; men buy it for the same reason.
And WTF!!! It's normal for gays to be child molesters??? How absurd! I hope Buttercup doesn't try to use that as her defense.
