Do you know, its something I really miss now I live in Spain, but I loved it back in the UK, although what I do now, I imagine its really cold outside when it rains here, and we do get really heavy rain here, especially from November through to around February, so when it does rain I curl up and listen to it, it does get windy too, just not as cold and windy as the UK, but, for some reason it does make you feel safe and warm and happy doesn't it, and from what every one else has said, I think we all agree with you, its just the best feeling, maybe its because we all know that when we are inside we know we don't need to be out there, so it makes us feel good. My Dog's don't like it though, they don't know what they are missing do they?

I love it, as long as I can feel secure. It is a really cosy feeling and I suppose that feeling cocooned in this way is the nearest we can get to being back in the womb. I was amazed to discover, when moving to a tropical country where I so much appreciated the warmth, that people who had always lived there looked forward to the winter months when it became a little cooler and they could put a blanket on the bed and snuggle under it, capturing that feeling of cosiness which was a rare luxury, confined as it was to that brief part of the year.

The French singer Jean Ferrat has recorded a lovely song entititled Le Châtaigner, in which he describes how as he lies in bed in his loft he hears the creaking of the wooden floor and thinks of the original chestnut tree from which the planks are made and of how the tree still seems to be singing the magic song which it sang in the forest. It has a lovely rhythm resembling the the swaying of the tree or the swinging of a hammock and to me it conveys the feeling which you ask about.

It's a beautiful experience. :-) Not only is it nice and warm, it feels rather safe, and sounds are almost euphoric. *sighs* :x

Even if you're alone, you can really enjoy it (although having someone special with you is also nice). The winds howling, waves of the ocean crashing against the shore, rain pattering on the windowsill, drinking hot choco as you're huddled in front of the fireplace with a warm felt blankie, listing to classical music... Ahhhhhh!! This is the life! It's beautiful.

Thanks for the memories. ;) Take care.

Ooooh yeah...it's more than cozy, for me it's total nostalgia.

The experience always transports me back to when I was a child, in my home country, lying in bed on a stormy night struggling to NOT fall asleep because I loved hearing the whistling sounds against the window panes. To this day, I still do.

We had a conservatory built last year.

The man said "For an extra 100 you can have a better roof and you can't hear the rain on it."

I paid an extra 150 to get a special roof that amplifies the sound of rain on it.

Yeah. Wonderful feeling - ESPECIALLY - if you feel dozy and sleep fuelled to roll over and go back to sleep.

My wife was given a form of 'duvet' (from Sweden) that goes over the mattress and which you lie on top of, then of course, you have the duvet over you. Both are 'down' filled and together, OOOh, it can be MAGNIFICENTLY GLORIOUS.

Sash.

It is the safest feeling in the world...best with flannel sheets, hot tea or cocoa, good book, very soft music and candles.
