North Korea operates beyond the bounds of rationality (such as it is in the world today). I think NK will do whatever they can get away with, and since what a crazy person thinks s/he can get away with is often much different than what you or I might think possible, that could be alot. The US/UN/rest of the world is not smart enough to know how NOT to play by the rules, and NK is clever enough to know that those rules only apply to those who chose to live by them.

The Soviets knew that launching their missiles was beyond a last option because it would have meant not only the end of the USSR but possibly the end of EVERYTHING; ditto the US. NK is likely aware that that is true but is probably not too constrained by it. As long as big a$$ leader or whatever he calls himself (and let's be honest -- he IS NK) figures he can bury himself deeply enough to survive a nuclear conflict, he probably doesn't care much what the other consequences are.

I believe that if (keyword if in the sentence) they could harness the power to make a nuke, they would blast as many people away as they could. The president is very much a dictator and has expressed his deep loathing of American and many other countries. I believe that if he could, he would, end of story. However, lucky us, right now it is mostly talk. I don't think it will stay that way though. Making a bomb is certainly not one countries secret, and sooner or later one of these countries is going to make one, and they aren't going to care about the 'proper rules of combat'. This is the age of guerrilla warfare. I doubt if North Korea is going to sit down and have peace talks after they make their bombs.

I would think the only country they have in mind bombing is the USA. But at the minute they are just wanting power and world to look up at them as if they are a super power.

At a later date after they get the bomb fit on top of a missile they will start making demands and trying to bully other countries. Then they would drop the bomb on anyone who challenged them.

So yes at some point they are planing to bomb someone because they know that the world will not bow down to them.

It is unlikely they have direct intention of using few Atomic weapons they could produce. Wonder how difficult it is to produce nuclear weapon. At start of Gulf 1 George Bush Sr dropped eqivlent of 5 Atomic Bombs. 20 Cruse Missiles with 1000 warheads could do same thing without radiation.

They most likely don't want to bomb anyone. But we certainly would love to bomb them. They are acting this way because we are threatening them with attacks, sanctions and more. What would you do if the country with the most bombs in the world, already involved in inivading, occupying and threatening countries all over the world was at your door step with a threatening message.

They're a poor little country that has the enmity of most of the world. They just want to have an extra deterrent against attack. They couldn't risk attacking anyone, although the USA will blow this matter up out of all proportion as an excuse to stockpile even more weapons.

Nope, no country except Pakistan can bomb anyone, North Korea is not a country of fanatics, But pakistan is shadow ruled by Islamist fanatics and they can go to any extent to prove their point, their only motto seems to be kill and get killed.

I'm confident in knowing that they just want to be noticed, use the threat to get some bargaining chips for the future. The economy there is atrocious.

They are just trying to rattle their sabre in defiance. Let Russia, Japan and China take them on.
