No, you do not have to fast or anything (unless your doctor has told you ahead of time something different) When you arrive, they will have you drink this really concentrated sugary drink. It tastes like flat soda. You can choose from orange, lime (which I chose and it wasn't too bad) and a cola flavor one. You have 5 minutes to drink it. After you drink it, you wait for an hour, so the drink can go through your system, and then they draw 1 vile of blood. It takes no more than 30 seconds.
If your results come back higher than normal, they will schedule you for another glucose test, in which they take blood three times in 3 hours. For that test, they will make you only drink water that day, until you have your test. Again, this is only if your previous test comes back higher than normal.
Good luck and congrats on the little one :)

U are suppose to fast tonight at midnight. Nothing to eat or drink not even water. Thats it. When u go tomorrow they will make u drink this sugary drink. There are different flavors like orange, cola and lime. Once u drink it u will sit for an hr and then have your blood drawn. After that u are finished until the results come back. I see a lot of people that are saying don't fast, but i was told otherwise when i had my test done. Verify with your doc's office that way u will know for sure.

Your doctor's office should have given you a sheet with instructions on this, but since they clearly didn't, there should at least be instructions on the bottle of orange stuff you have to drink. I think it was something like you had to drink the whole thing within 10 minutes, and then your blood has to be drawn within an hour of consuming the drink.
I just remember that my dr's office told me to tell the receptionist as soon as I walked in that I was there for a glucose test so they'd be sure to take me in time. I would call your OB's office in the morning to double check the timing that's needed.

I was never told to fast for mine. However I would advise not eating much and drinking plenty of water beforehand. I wouldn't eat anything high in carbs or with a lot of sugar before you take it either.
I thought the orange stuff they gave me tasted like Sunkist but only a little sweeter. It's not that bad. The bad one is if you fail the first one because you have to get blood drawn like 3 or 4 different times.
Trust me I had to have another one and the 1st one was a lot better!

For the inital 1 hour test no you do not have to fast it is actualy better to eat as you normally do that way you get an accurate test ...if you fail the 1 hour test then you will be asked to come back for a 3 hour test...that is when you are advised to fast and you are usually set up for a morning appt so you dont have to go the whole day without eating. Going so long when prego without eating is bad for you anyway since it could cause your blood sugar to DROP and you to get dizzy/weak

For my glucose test, I was told to eat normally up untill three hours befor and then nothing more than water up untill 1 hour befor. Than you take the drink and go get your blood drawn, that was just my experience, because having a pregnant woman fast is never good.

you ought to are starting to be an education sheet from the final practitioner's place of work telling you recommendations lengthy for the fasting and that you'll have water. The labs have diverse timings yet better than 8 hours is senseless. and they continually enable water. OGTT, Oral Glucose Tolerance try, is the only glucose finding out that calls for fassting, yet we are continually allowed to have some water.

You should eat healthy balanced meals. When I was pregnant with my first baby I was advised to avoid carbs for a whole day in advance. But I have a new doctor with this pregnancy and I asked him about it, he said I could avoid carbs and fool the test, taking the baby's life into jeopardy if the test showed a false negative. He advised me to eat balanced meals before the test. I had mine in the morning and for breakfast I had 1 slice of toast and a scrambled egg. I passed with flying colors. No fasting is necessary, and drink the liquid in the 5 minute time frame they give you, if you take to long you have to do it over again.

I had mine at 24 weeks..and now i'm 32 weeks, and they told me NOT to fast because that wasn't good and that's old school...And all they do is when you get there you get a choice purple or orange, I picked orange and it kinda tasted like you pour a big huge thing of sugar into a orange pop and you drink it and wait an hour and they take your blood..it's not that bad. But you should call your doctors office anyways, just to make sure.
