A semi-colon is a punctuation mark that defines a division in a sentence more strongly than a comma. In your examples I don't think the semi-colon is appropriate. I would say:-
I have trouble sleeping, usually only getting around 2 hours sleep a night.
I have a bad short term memory, sometimes forgetting things that have been said to me just minutes before.

Use a semicolon if there is a complete sentence that could stand alone on either side of the semicolon, like in the 2nd sentence. You could break them into 2 separate sentences, but you don't have to as a semicolon is a perfectly acceptable punctuation for this instance. The first sentence only needs a comma however because the 2nd part is NOT a complete sentence.

A semi-colon can be used to replace a comma followed by a joining word, such as "and","but",etc.
Hence, in the first one, I am not sure if you would use any punctuation (maybe a comma instead of the semicolon).
However, in the second sentence, yes. You can replace the semicolon with a comma and "and" to read "I have a bad short-term memory, and sometimes forget things that have been said to me just minutes before".
Hope this helps.

it really is genuinely no longer a semicolon, because semicolons separate 2 clauses that could want to variety sentences all alone. i'd placed a "that" in between "effect" and "in." also, i does no longer use a comma there. the single after "way of life" is nice. also, you could placed a comma after "exciting." it truly is exciting, because i became below the effect that in any respect of life, medical information is the biggest source for analyze.

No. Neither sentence requires or even calls for a semi-colon. Review the rules. They are simple and easily understandable. Neither of these sentences would fall under any rule where a semi-colon should be used.

In both cases the use of semi-colon is not recommended. In my opinion, in both cases one could use ellipses. This is conversational English rather than grammatically correct English, so rules of grammar may not be so important.

I think you should break both of them up into two senctences, with "I" starting the second sentences. It would just sound better.
