Good question! Well, first off its EXPENSIVE!! Its croweded and traffic there is a NIGHTMARE!! I-5 is the main freeway (north south) and traffice around there is bad All day All year! It rains ALOT, not thunderstorms, but days and weeks of wet drizzling rain and gray clouds. The temps average about 35 low to 55 high during the spring, fall and winter months and the summers run about 65 low and can get up to around 95 for highs.
That being said, its gorgeous in the summer! I've never seen a more perfect setting for summer! Perhaps its the LONG rainy season that makes you appreciate it so much, but it truly is beautiful for about 3 months out of the year. Forget swimming, the ocean (puget sound at least) is FREEZING COLD! I never could get used to it. But, you can do all sorts of things there! They have a new stadium (just a few years old now) for the Seattle Mariners and the Seattle Seahawks are right next door. Its is not a problem to get tickets to the games and its alot of fun. The downtown/Pikes Place Market area is a blast and you NEVER run out of things to do! Salmon fishing, whale watching, kayaking, hiking, biking... the list is endless!!
If you can stand the expense of the housing and the gloomy short winter days (sun sets around 430 and rises about 8am!), then its a fun place to live! Good luck on the move and hope you enjoy it!

Seattle is expensive, has a high crime rate, tends to be very grey, and the traffic/commute is among one of the worst in the country. On the positive side, it is in a beautiful area, lots to see and do, and lots of outdoor activities, year round.
As an alternative, I would recommend Bellingham, WA, about a 90 minutes drive north. It's a small city, but has most everything, and is about halfway between Seattle, WA and Vancouver, BC, so you can get all the culture and activities you want, and its cleaner, less expensive, and has a higher quality of life.
The Pacific Northwest is a beautiful area, and one of the best to live in. If your family really wants a city, then go for one of the suburbs of Seattle.

I have been in correspondence with some one that lives there and was told that it does not rain as much as every one says.. I also was told that it is so beautiful there. The areas surrounding Seattle is the least expensive.
I have been doing some research on it too, because I want to move there also. Sounds to me better than some places!
See ya there :)

Contrary to popular belief, it doesn't rain here everyday. It does get "drizzly" in the winter months, but it also gets dark, since we're so far north. Overall though, the weather here is relatively mild, particularly compared to cities on the East Coast and in the Midwest.
The scenery here is breathtaking. Beautiful mountains, water, trees, wildlife, etc. The people are mostly fit, intelligent, and somewhat friendly (not as friendly as some southern states, but more friendly than East Coast folks).
The cons to living here are that housing is expensive and there's a great deal of traffic. The traffic is mostly because you have to take a bridge to get anywhere.
I think you will like it here!!
