Is it the wheel rims or the ballbearings in it that cause the sound?

It's probably those monster mudders or did you forget to take off your snow tires the rims wont make any noise, must be the bearings :)

You did not describe the noise, but it is unlikely to be the wheel rims, so the wheel bearings could be the culprit. Does the noise reduce on one side when you go round a curve (i.e., the load is being taken off the wheel bearing)? But it seems odd that both sets of wheel bearings are u/s at the same time. Have you checked that nothing is rubbing on the tyres, or that the brake linings/disc pads are not worn so that you have metal to metal contact? That would certainly make a noise!

Do you have snow tires on? What kind of tread do you have left on the tires? Could be the wear bar indicators within the treads that make a noise when the tire rubber wears down to them which is to alert the driver that the tires are wearing and soon need of replacement. Could be the bearings too, if it a rear drum brake then it is a fairly easy fix.

could just have a flat spot on your tires, some road will just make a noise, just depends on the kind of noise

If you don't have snow tires, then you might
have a mechanic pull a tire and check out
your brakes......could be going bad.

if it's a scratchy kind of noise it's probably brakes, if that's the case, better get it done soon or it'll end up costing more
