can i plug a wire into my pc and watch tv?

if i was to get tv stations from a company like sky could i put a lead that goes from the box and to my pc so i can watch tv through that?

Not quite. You need a TV card for your PC.
All the internal slots in my PC are full so I have an AverTV external USB-connected card. It has inputs for a standard TV aerial and for the red/white/yellow phono plugs. If your Sky box doesn't have those three outputs you can buy a cheap Scart adapter for them. Maplins etc sell the adapters and leads. Loads of retailers sell PC TV cards.
