How about "adopting" a poor family. Christmas eve, have your family gather up the things you've gotten for them...some groceries, mittens, scarves, hats and a few toys for the kids, wrap them up and drop them off on the door step of the family. The true spirit of holidays can be found by letting people have some magic at a time when they need it most.

Use choice Season's Greeting cards. Or, perhaps, start with exquisite New Year Greeting cards. Send these to all people who you really care for. That's tradition, isn't it? Ethical too!

Visit a tourist place / elegant resort of your choice and enjoy some peace and tranquility.

My husband and I celebrate Christmas on Christmas Eve - we exchange gifts and enjoy the evening just the two of us. Then on Christmas Day we spend it with our families. It works out great and makes for a lovely holiday time!

I stopped celebrating the holidays some years ago, and it's been a huge relief! Now, when everyone else is all depressed because Hallmark (or Sears or some other retailer) has all their money after xmas, I'm all smiles and relaxation!
