You really need insurance. I mean I guess you could pay for it all by yourself but I got the doctor's bills for the first appointment's blood work alone (4 tests) and it was $417.85--my company messed up. I remember all the tests I had when I was pregnant...and I can't imagine having to pay that every time. My labour and deliver (which wasn't the greatest) was $11,000! Is there a reason why you can't be insured? I feel really bad for you and I'd like to help. I would hate if having a child would put me so far in debt!

You can call your doctor's office and request a price breakdown of all the testing you will need as well as your prenatal care. Also, you need to contact the hospital and ask for the price of delivery (get a price for both vaginal birth and for c-section.) You can inquire about the cost of an anesthesiologist if you need an epidural or block. You should also call the pediatrician's office and find out what newborn care usually runs (boys tend to be more if circumcision is done.) My sister had both of her children without insurance and was able to set up a payment plan with the hospital. She paid a certain amount each moth during her pregnancy to cut her bills after the baby came. The other doctors might let you do this as well. The doctors and hospital should be very cooperative with you, they want their money and you would be showing responsibility by asking about it before the baby comes.

You can get insurance. Are you pregnant now?
There is a way. It's called HSA (Health Savings Account).
Basically you open one of these. Arrange to put money in
monthly, just like insurance, it's $1000 deductable, but after
that they pay everything. It's a Federal Government Program.
It would come in very handy if there are problems before or
after the pregnancy.

for prenatal care around $1500-2000, my insurance paid for all but a hundred or so. the delivery is going to hit you up for about $10,000. u can still get insurance because pregnancy can not be considered an existing condition so insurance can not deny u coverage based on ur pre-existing pregnancy.
good luck

I had no insurance for my first daughter. Lab work alone was $2,000. Then my doctors visits were $300.00 a month. The hospital bill was rediculous! Just for the epidural it cost around $2,000. You should really check into welfare or some other state agency that might be able to help you. You really don't want to have to pay everything out of your own pocket.

It is way too expensive! Each lab is usually over $100 if not more and each visit is probably upwards of $200 and plus the ultrasound in over $400. Why not check with your state or county? Most offer a healthy start program that gives 100% coverage for prenatal care for expecting mothers. I work in that field, and I bet there is something. Go immediatly to a county office or something. Even planned parenthood should be able to refer you to the right place, they usually have info on that.

The last baby I had was 5 years ago.
My Dr's prenatal care and delivery fee alone was $2900
The lab fees were all separate, was like $70.00 a pop.
There are clinics you can go to and have a set fee for prenatal and labor and delivery.

Wow you are in for it big time in the pocket book. I paid out $1100 WITH insurance for just prenatal care, then another $2000 for what wasn't covered of my C-section.

Way too much! I know I didn't have insurance when I got pregnant and I went and got a medical card. I wasn't sure if I would apply for it but I did. I would check into it because its a lot of money to have a baby. And you might have to have a Csection which is going to cost even more!

Try to apply for medicaid. I worked full time and had primary insurance through my job, but my insurance didn't cover prenatal care so I qualified for medicaid. Medicaid is God send. I had all my fees paid for Dr bills, meds and all. Because I qualified for medicaid, my baby did as well and he is on Blue Cross blue shield as primary insurance, but medicaid pays for what Blue cross blue shield doesn't. And don't let anyone make you feel inadequate or bad for getting medicaid. If you work and pay taxes, then you are paying to use medicaid with your taxes.
