Get a microbiological swab taken and cultured to rule out sexually transmitted disease. (it probably isn't). If it's a white lesion on the tongue, inner lips or cheeks, it is more likely to be what's called an aphthous lesion. (you can Google that). They were thought to be caused by a bacterium Streptococcus sanguous. (not the usual strep of strep throat). A good cheap treatment for it is to paint it with a chemical called gentian violet (= crystal violet). These sores tend to flare up when people are under stress, or in a generally run down condition. Good diet, regular exercise, and any of the many stress reducing regimens (like meditation of any kind that works), could stop their recurrence.

Don't feel embarrassed!! You asked a great question, and I think you kind of already know the answer based on how your question was phrased and the fact that you are worrying over it.
First, let me talk a little bit about screening for STDs and correct some misinformation in previous answers. A pap smear DOES NOT screen for STDs. Nope... not at all. It screens for CERVICAL CANCER. And, some (actually most) cervical cancers are caused by an STD called HPV. But, there is a totally seperate test for HPV called HPV typing. So, if you had a pap smear, you were definitely screened for cervical cancer, and you might have been screened for HPV, but you were not tested for any other STDs.
Chlamydia and Gonorrhea can be detected by both an internal swab and a urine test. But, this is a separate test and your doctor has to order it. These are sometimes done during pregnancy. HIV and Syphillis are both blood tests and are often performed during pregnancy.
Now, let's talk a little bit about Herpes, since that is most likely what you're afraid of. It's very common (like 1 in 4 people!) and also very misunderstood and very difficult to screen for. In up to 50% of the cases, the blood test comes back negative even if the person has herpes. And it's not routinely tested for as a part of prenatal care. Also, there are two types of Herpes-- Type I (above the waist) and Type II below the waist. However, the virus doesn't really care about our labeling system-- Type I will show up below the waist and Type II will show up above-- due to the prevelence of oral sex. Also, herpes is one of those conditions that can be dormant for a long, long time--- people can go years and years without an outbreak-- so it could have been something either of you caught years ago. And, to the person who said her doctor told her the difference between mouth ulcers and herpes-- get a new doctor. Although not all mouth ulcers are caused by herpes, Herpes can certainly cause mouth ulcers. In fact, herpes can cause ulcers pretty much anywhere-- including inside the throat, on the face- even on the hands. The virus is stored in the nerves.
So, you MIGHT have herpes. You might not. He might have herpes. He might not. You BOTH MIGHT have herpes. The only way to know for sure is to visit a Dr. when he has an active sore (within 24-28 hours of eruption.) The Dr. will culture it and can also make a visual diagnosis.
Regardless... you're worrying and the only way to reassure yourself is to talk with your doctor. Maybe your husband is very sensitive to certain chemicals that may be present in your vagina or vulva and that's causing the ulcers. But, you need to talk to your doctors in order to feel better.
Hope this helps!! Best of luck to you!

There are two types of herpes simplex virus: HSV-1 and HSV-2. Both virus types can cause sores around the mouth (herpes labialis) and on the genitals (genital herpes). Cold sores are caused by the herpes simplex virus (HSV).
Cold sores sometimes called fever blisters, are groups of small blisters on the lip and around the mouth. The skin around the blisters is often red, swollen, and sore. The blisters may break open, leak a clear fluid, and then scab over after a few days. They usually heal in several days to 2 weeks.
The herpes simplex virus usually enters the body through a break in the skin around or inside the mouth. It is usually spread when a person touches a cold sore or touches infected fluid—such as from sharing eating utensils or razors, kissing an infected person, or touching that person's saliva. A parent who has a cold sore often spreads the infection to his or her child in this way. Cold sores can also be spread to other areas of the body.
Luckly there is a cure for herpes https://tr.im/a4f84

It may just be a coincidence. I get them sometimes and it's due to the things that I eat. If I eat alot of acidic foods I get them (i.e. tomatoes, oranges, orange juice, etc.) My doctor told me they are not contagious and my b/f has never contracted one from kissing me when I had one. I would make a list of the stuff he eats and drinks everyday and see if there is a pattern of what he consumes with when he gets the mouth ulcers. Good luck.

Hmm............. new one to me this but mouth ulcers often occur in people that are prone after contact with acidic things and the vagina is naturally acidic, so could be the cause.
