The chicken... And I will tell you why I think so. If you all you have is an egg then it cannot be fertiliked to produce a chicken. If you the ckicken came first then it would have had to have been two a male and female. Then the the egg gets fertilized,and the egg hatches. Actually I dont know. I dont think anyone knows for sure. Good question though. LOL

Looking at it from an evolutionary perspective, the egg came first, as any genetic mutation that occured to turn the bird into the one we know as a chicken would have happened in the embryonic state.

Literally speaking, birds evolved from saurian species that were laying eggs long before the first "proto-birds" existed. Moreover, those saurians evolved from tetrapods that laid eggs, which evolved from marine species that also laid eggs.

Therefore, the egg came along a long, LONG time before the chicken or any other bird.

hmmm this one is always a hard one but... My thoughts are the egg came first from another type of bird and due to evolution, out came a chicken instead of whatever bird laid the egg.
