Also, you can wear gloves when you're coming in contact with things, and use lots of lotions on your cuticles and nail beds. Keeping them moistened is very important. Finally, using polishes is sometimes more hurtful than helpful as they strip your nails of their natural oils and often when the polish chips off it takes parts of your nail as well.
