We moved to Washington D.C. in 1993. Every year we buy the official "White House" ornament from the Historical Society. Since then, our neighbors have given us ornaments from the State Dept, Congress, National Cathedral, and even the CIA (?!) We put white lights on the tree with blue ribbon and red beads. It's our "Capitol Tree."
Then there's the "Kid's Tree" in the Family Room. It's got just about one of everything from Nativity Scenes to Star Wars.

No, our tree never has a theme, we have to many ornaments that have sentimental value. Plus doing a different theme every year can get quite expensive. We live in the country so we go to the christmas tree farm and pick out our own tree and cut it down So their usually short and fat, but we decorate it how every we want, no specifics.

Absolutely not!
I love the old school, multicoloured, handmade decorated with the tablecloth skirt kind of tree!
Red, Green, Gold, Blue, Silver, Purple, anything goes!
I still have decorations I made in school 20 years ago!
And this year we'll have my daughters' to add...
Nothing like a good old family tree!

Just total kayos.. haha The kids get in to the madness of decorating and we have lots of fun. Way too much tinsel and most of the ornaments on the bottom. It is just for fun and the kids will remember it all there lives. I don't change anything they put on the tree.

I don't put up a Christmas Tree, I have a Winter Solstice Tree though, celebrating the return to the longer days of light.

The theme is always the past. We unwrap each ornament and remember what year we got it and it is always fun. We can't afford to change the decorations every year.

I guess my theme is family. Its decorated with ornaments that my Mom and Dad had when they were little, things my brother and I made and now ornaments from my husband's and mine vacations together.

My tree always comes out victorian looking...even when I don't try! So I stick with the Victorian theme, it seems to work for me.
