My goodness I feel old when I remember that show. But in the US he was originally used to sell Coca-Cola back in the early 80's voiced by Matt Frewer. Eventually the character became a pop icon (pardon the pun) due to the popularity and became a cult television program.

Yeah, Matt Frewer was great as Max. Matt is now on SciFi's Eureka tv show.
