This is a question you should ask your pediatrician. That's their job.

General tips:
1) Don't worry about it too much.

2) DON'T worry about it too much! Mealtimes should be fun (even if extremely messy). No pressure on you or the baby.

3) For most babies, eating off a spoon is difficult before 6 months. Their tongues are designed to help get breast milk, not eat solids. It is NORMAL for 4 or 5 month old babies to push the food out of their mouths. They are not "spitting". This is a normal thing called an "extrusion reflex". At this age, you are just having fun and establishing a mealtime routine. You're not worried about extra nutrition.

Talk to your pediatrician about the following at the next appointment:
1) When should I start trying baby foods?
2) What foods are safe / easy and at what age?
3) What foods should I avoid until a certain time?

Good luck.

Hold off until 6 months if you can. Some babies are different and require different things. No sooner then 4 months for sure!

The reason they say its best to wait until 6 months is because they have lost that tongue thrust reflex and will take to using the spoon easier. Also if you start your child too soon they could develop allergies. Another reason..they need time for their digestive systems to fully develop.

My doctor told me to start on rice cereal by 4 months and baby food by 6 months. But I kind of just threw out the rule book with my daughter. By the time she was 6 months she was already eating rice and beans and all kinds of real soft foods and no she's not overweight or obese she is exactly where she should be!

The docto'rs advice is 6 mths of exclusive breast feeding. Which means u are expected 2 give your baby baby food from six months. However, A BABY WHOSES MOTHER DIES AFTER DELIVERY OR CANNOT BREAST FEED HER CHILD 4 MEDICAL REASONS, IS GIVEN BABY FOOD AFTER 4 DAYS TO 1 WEEK OF FEEDING ON WATER AND GLUCOSE.

Solids should be started at 6 months old. Some docs will okay rice cereal at 4months, and even earlier if the baby has reflux.

It's usually between 4- 6 months the earlier you introduce foods the more likely to have food allergies.
