Convert your drive to NTFS - FAT32 can't handle 4 GB files - the file you are downloading is probably more than 3.99 GB, but that's where it crashes because of the 4 GB Limitation.
Run CONVERT X: /FS:NTFS
Where X: is the drive letter you are trying to download to - if you are trying to download to C: then use C: - if this is an external USB drive, then use whatever drive letter it has.
MAKE A BACKUP FIRST - In 12 years I've never seen this cause a problem, but if you're the first, you'll be sorry you didn't backup your important data first.

Do a disk cleanup on your hard drive. That will clean up substantial space. Also, leave your computer running for a night and "defrag" your system. Also, 50 GB of space may seem like a lot, but it can get filled quickly depending on how much stuff you have saved onto your computer, or the programs that you're using. You might think about backing up your system onto a floppy (if you still have a floppy drive) or CD/DVD (depending on your PC) or even a "flash drive." The flash drive is the thing that you see coming down in price every sunday in you're Best Buy and Circuit City circulars on Sunday. They plug into any open USB port and you can put all your valuble information such as word documents and pictures (to name a few) onto it. Keeping them there will prevent the headache of yelling if your system where to ever crash.

WHen you goto download make sure that it is downloading to the correct drive you can also check your drive in My Computer. Right click on the drive and goto properties and see how much free space is left. Even thou you have a 50GB Hard Drive you may have already used up some space.
