You like poems..hmmm interesting...are you by chance a Taurian???
Anyways..you can write a poem to persuade people not to let down by failures or about different aspects of life and then title your poem "life's like that!"
Nature is an extremely interesting topic or try writing on the lifestyle of people and its comparison with past for example
Time and tide has waited for no man
but times have changed
Now people don't have time to spend good times..or something something...I'm no poet ;(
Friendship is a very stale topic but people sometime come up with very touching poems
And when you are completely done with writing your ideas into poems..you can write yet another poem about your journey from day one of writing poems till the completion of the book!
Good luck..u take care
Bye

I've written a lot of poems but never thought to have them published as they all have special meaning to me. When i get a lack of ideas i used to think back to old relationships (i write exclusively love poems and may publish some on my 360 blog) i will also play a sad cd such as Disintegration by The Cure.
One thing i did awhile back is used word play i'd take a phrase such as "As You" and use it in a context such as make it apply as a verbal phrase then in the last part of the section make it apply as an post sentence simili.
Swing by my blog in a few days and i'll have a few up. You can get ideas from the everyday and habits of people you know for instance i used to leave a jasmine scented candle in the window of my old apartment as a sign to a girl i was seeing that i was home and thinking of her and wanted to see her. It was more romantic than a booty call.

A great idea would be about cherishing your friends and family because they are all you can count on in a harsh world like today. In my poem, I started out like this, "This is a bleeding heart and a tired tongue, Dripping with the brutal truth and honesty, Sometimes the people you love the most are the ones you hurt most...." Yea. Hope that gives you an idea.

i don't know you, so i can't really give you good ideas. what kind of poetry do you write? write about personal experiences, your day to day observations. just write everything you think about, then edit it and decide what to expand on or throw away. good luck with the book.

THERE WAS A GIRL WHO DIDN'T KNOW WHAT TO DO.
HER MIND WAS BLANK AND SHE THOUGHT SHE WAS THROUGH.
SHE RAN OUT OF POEMS AND OF WAYS TO THINK,
SO FINALLY SHE SAID, "FORGET IT! I'LL JUST HAVE A DRINK"
WELL, THAT MADE IT WORSE, WE KNOW THIS TO BE TRUE.
NOW, ALL OF HER DAYS WERE LONELY AND BLUE.
ONCE SHE PUT THE BOOZE DOWN FOR GOOD,
HER BRAIN CAME BACK LIKE SHE KNEW IT WOULD.!!
