pi is a constant non repeating number and is found by dividing the circumference of a circle by its radius
SORRY, badly worded question!!
The answer is 3.143 because the 4th decimal place is equal to or greater than 5. This means the answer can be rounded up to 3 decimal places (the 6 is dropped and 1 is added to 2 and it becomes 3).
If it was 3.142(4) the answer would be 3.142 to 3 d.p.
