If we evolved to grow an eye on the end of the first finger on one hand we could check our own ears out and look over high walls.

It is a basic communications problem. Take a look at the size of the optic nerve. That is what is required for the eye to communicate with the brain. Would you want something of that size and that vulnerable running down your arm to your finger?
There is also the problem of delay, signals move quite slowly along our nerves and delaying a complex visual signal would present some interesting problems.

Evolution uses natural selection; some progressions may be useful and serve a purpose [by your logic at least] but they only stay in place if they make the species as a whole more efficient or resilient

Saying that nature does make mistakes thanfully natural selection resolves these.

An eye on the end of your finger? Would you REALLY wanna see what your finger sees when you pick your nose? [If you pick it that is! (don't lie I know you do!)]

Think about cost. Eyes are costly apparatus. How we did evolve is a good cost against benefit trade off.

It's probably because it would get really confusing as it would be hard to tell what we were looking at. Imagine trying to watch tv and looking at something on the florr at the same time. also we would poke ourselves in the eye everytime we wrote something on the computer. and we'd get really dizzy every time we ran coz of everything flying past whilst we were staring at the ground.

If God intended for us to do that, we would have an eye on the end of our finger. Remember God is more concerned with our character than our comfort....

If you need to pick up something hot you would then burn your eye..... I'd rather burn my finger tip.

evolution is about competition and filling a niche...about the passing on of genes...meaning being more fit in the your own gene pool as well as being able to survive in a particular enviroment..being more attractive to the other sex is just as if not more important as catching enough food ...but remember evol;ution is just a theory and a pretty boring one as well....

it isn't practical, and would not better serve our needs on the planet is why we did not evolve that way :) I think one of the main faux-pas in our evolution is the inability to clean ourselves with out our hands.. i mean other animals can.. no fair LOL

well then we would also be blinding ourselves every time we touched something hot or spicy...

Our fingures have the skin which acts as their eyes...haven;t you ever felt a glass of water to see if it was hot or cold..or your mom must have felt your forehead to check if you had fever....

Instead think abt wings....

Maybe the same reason why we don't have eyes in the back of our head to look behind us !!!
