1987 Nissan Pathfinder, lacks power. When it gets to about 45 mph, the engine "shudders" and will backfire until I get to about 50-55. Then it will accelerate slowly.

Sounds like it's not firing on all cylinders, or the tuning is way off.
Take it for a tune up, and get the plugs and leads replaced.

Extremely lean fuel mixture will cause backfire. Check the fuel filter(s).

Check your vacuum advance. Sounds like your timing is not advancing as you accelerate.

Because you need a new one!! Not rying to be mean but the truck needs to be put to rest.
