I most certainly agree. The media tries to out do each other for the story. This leads to more and more coverage. Then you turn around and some one has made a video game about it like they did with Columbine. Just tell the story and leave it alone. Its OK to do up dates but dont hang around trying to force stories to evolve into something.

Its likely some. From Colombine forward, the media has effectively offered decades of notriety as a reward to any downtrodden loser who is willing to go down in a 'blaze of glory' to get massive international attention rather then being shunned, bullied or ignored.

Its hard to blame the media though, rather then society as a whole who laps up the information.

Based on your phrasing of the question, you already have an answer, so, why bother asking anyone else?

"drive by"
"maniac"
"axe to grind"
"glory"
"copy cat"

Thats how the media get viewer attention, have you ever watched the channels, Link or NPR with identical coverage, but without the dramatic music and background effects, makes a whole different program..

I think the media has exposed our school system for a weakness that exists within it.

At my job people have to go through security, why are our children vulnerable in this day and age?

Part of the problem is that we don't have enough psyche workers in the school system. Children's psychological needs are being ignored by our education system.
