There's a difference between being green and being a tree hugger. A greenie is genuinely concerned about the environment, but understands that there is a balance between successfully running an industrialized society and protecting the environment. A tree hugger is more of a frothing at the mouth, Greenpeace, Kazinsky type person, LOL

People do not need to try to use "tree hugger" as an insult. It is to most people with the level of intelligence to understand.

It's calling someone an environmentalist or, with this current administration, a radical, considering "hugging trees" or having a consideration for the environment is the last thing our friend Bush and his cronies would be caught dead doing.

There is this part in "To Kill a Mockingbird" where someone calls scouts dad a name and she punches em in the nose. And she doesn't know what the name means, just in the way it is said.

"like callin someone a snotnose"

is the way the author put it.

Because of Eco-terrorists. You know, the ones who kill loggers, put poor people out of work, let forests become tender-boxes of dead brush and trees ready to burn at any minute and kill folks.
