Every person is different. I was on the depo shot for five yrs and I stayed the same weight through out. I think alot of the depo side effects come when you go off the shot...at least that is what happened to me. Ask your doctor if you are doing all the right things to lose weight and its just not coming off.
Eating right and getting plenty of rest and always remember to exercise at least 20min per day...even if its just going up and down the stairs.....

Some say Depo can make it hard to lose weight...but i've been fat and slender on it, and off of it. I was fat because of what I put in my mouth, and the fact I wasn't active enough.
I've been on Depo for a decade or more...I love it...it's very effective as birth control, and I don't miss having a period AT ALL or PMS...no bloating, no moodiness, no cramps...and I take a calcium supplement to help with the lack of estrogen so hopefully osteoporosis won't be an issue (that is a down-the-road concern with depo)...
I'm 41 yrs old and know that to stay a nice size I have to watch what I eat, and exercise regularly, period...that has nothing to do with depo, but everything to do with my slowing metabolism.

One of the side effects of depo is weight gain. Either discontinue the shot and opt for the pill/patch/IUD or stay on a low calorie diet.
Here in Canada they urge women not to use depo because there is no definite long term effects to date. A lady actually died from depo due to hemmoraging in the brain.

I was on Depo for about 3 years, my weight did steadly go up while on it. But i wasn't exercising and eatting correctly. I think as long as you are the type of person who is active and doesn't eat a lot of crap food, then you'll be ok. Just also be aware of the other issues with depo. One major one is that it can cause Osteoperosis especially if taken more than 2 years. When this study came out my doc took me off of it immediately.

I was on depo for two years. I did not gain any weight nor did I try to loose any. After the second year, I had to go off because I developed insomnia. The best part about being on it was no periods for two years!

I had a problem with weight gain while on depo. No matter what I did, I kept gaining. I finally went off of it and went back on the pill. Same workout regiment, and I lost the weight.

It makes some people gain weight, also it makes you bruise easier, and makes you bones less dense, and makes you have acne. I was on Depo for about 5 years, and got off it cause I was always bruising, and never got my period. But, you have a really good birth control effectivness with it!

For most people it results in weight gain. They can't tell if that will happen to you in advance, so you just have to get the shot and hope for the best.

I gained a lot of weight on the shot, and was also extremely moody!! If you haven't gotten the shot yet...don't. If you have already...be prepared.
