i recently gave birth vaginaly 6 weeks ago and my bleeding has been heavy as to where i will have to change pads every 20-30 minutes this has happend since the begining, keeping in mind that six weeks have past and i have never experienced any browning or old blood. the blood is bright red and new everyday, and never disapates it stays heavy constantly, occationly it will seem to slow a very small amount for a day or two but then picks back up to heavy. my delivery was very fast and smooth and i feel ok mot of the time. but i have no hopes of ever stoping bleeding, im starting to be content with bleeding the rest of my life. is this normal should i be concerned...what should i do.

I say you should see your doctor. Your flow should be tapering off by now. I nearly bled to death after my first baby was born because of an infection from my episiotomy.

I am currently in the same situation. I also gave birth 6 weeks ago, although a c-section. I bled for 5 weeks, not terrible bleeding. After 5 weeks I was done. Or at least I thought I was. I got a week break and the bleeding picked up again. It's so heavy that I'm getting dizzy and light headed when I stand up. I've tried tampons AND pads at the same time (just so I'm not in the bathroom every 30 mins changing. C'mon - who has time for that? We have a newborn baby to tend to.) Tampons are lasting me no more than 20 minutes. I'm passing HUGE clots. I called the doc and they had me come in for a hemoglobin test. They told me as long as the hemoglobin levels are in the norm there's not much they could do. They advised me to phone in this weekend if it's still heavy. Hope that helped. Usually you can run right in for a quick finger prick. Good Luck.

You should be scheduled for a 6 week post pardom check up. Your Dr. will do an exam on you to check the position and size of your uterus, check your vital signs and check your urine for ketone levels. He/She will also answer any question you have at the time.
It's not abnormal to bleed this long after childbirth...especially if this was your first delivery, and believe it or not...if you have red or blonde hair and fair skin, it's very normal for you to bleed longer than women of color, or with darker skin. If you are not breast feeding your baby, that could prolong the lochia as well.
Don't let any of the above answers scare you. Although there may be a very faint concern of some of the placenta still being in the uterus, it's not likely your case. Anywhere from 5 to 9 weeks of post delivery bleeding is absolutely normal. Discuss it with your Doc when you go next time. Don't worry, honey; you're fine. ;^)

My daughter were heavy bleeders after a vaginal delivery. The doctor didn't seem concerned about it. My daughter though appeared to get very weak, and her period lasted for 2 or 3 months. But if you are concerned it is always best to check with your doctor.

Call the doctor, having it heavy for that long could be dangerous. Plus, they always told me if I was soaking one pad in an hour (barring the gushing from standing up after sitting for long periods of time) that I should call my doctor. Good Luck!

Forget the doctor, go to the hospital. Soaking pads that quickly can be dangerous. The blood loss alone is a problem. Not to mention whatever is causing it.

You may not have expelled the placenta from your uterus. This can lead to severe hemorrhaging. It is important for the sake of your health (constant blood loss is just not good for, your heart has to pump more and more blood to make up for that being lost) and also so your baby doesn't have her mommy get sick or wind up in the hospital, that you go to the Hospital or your ob-gyn asap!

You should be seeing your OB at six weeks after delivery for your post-partum checkup.
