my son plays warcraft constantly...he has high honors in school, and plently of friends....it drives me nuts sometimes but I have to remember being 14....they need independence..and are starting to pull away....and get into there own things....be supportive, get involved with watching him play - try to understand the game when he explains it...(Good Luck) To me it seems that you need to have a very vivid imagination to even get involved with some of these games...don't worry...he could get in lots of trouble "hangin out" with friends..chasing girls.....computer games are a hobby...kids change hobbies and go on to other things...remember power rangers...yughio (spell?) cards..music, sports...try this...try that....if your son has good grades ect. leave him be...just moniter for chat rooms...and such...be open and honest about all of the creeps...Would you be as concerned if he.....played baseball constantly....???? Bill Gates probally played video games constantly....look at him.....:)

I agree with many other comments, it depends on how well they are doing in the real world.

Are their grades good?

Are they healthy? In other words, are they getting enough exercise?

Do they have friends and activities that are not on-line?

If any of these are a problem, I would limit them to less than an hour, or less if they are not getting their homework done or have social problems. If they have a healthy life outside of the game, up to a couple hours a night are OK.

My thirteen year old says one hour at most!!!
She also says a fourteen year old should have better things to do than play runescape!
(This same girl used to play Sims for about 2 hours a day up to a couple of months ago!!!)

Is it interfering with schoolwork, chores or sleep?
Speak with the teachers, find out the grades, if sleeping in class is happening.
If nothing is changed then why not let play as much as wanted as lojng as it doesnt affect their work and sleep.
Think about it this way, the 14 year old could be out getting in trouble, doing drugs or starting that early family.

As long as all the important things are done like homework etc the 2-2.5 hours max should be fine.

After homework and chores, I would say one hour is plenty. Kids need to do other things too like read, play, and talk with the fam.

If homework is done, chores are done, grades are good 1-2 hours. If grades are not satisfactory, cutting the time in half or taking it away is a good disciplinary tool.
