Yes they are cancelling it in california too. A lot of poor families won't be able to get christmas toys for their kids. When I was a kid that was the only way mom could afford to buy us presents.

I'm working at wal mart while going to college right now.. it's happening everywhere.
So when you go into the blitz where everything is on sale the day after Thanksgiving, there will be no layaway. My coworkers and I are thinking there will be some sort of riot. The corporate office thinks people use layaway as a savings option. Say, for instance, a wife wants to keep money from her husband. She will put something on layaway then change her mind later. It also leads to huge, HUGE stockroom problems as they have to have trailers to keep all the layawayed stuff in. During Christmas it's a mess.

Yes, they are cancelling layaway company wide. I read an article about it in our local newspaper. However, I think this is a big mistake for them and a bit of disloyalty to their long term customers that have depended on layaway for major purchases for things they could otherwise not afford to buy and Christmas shopping. I think I will be doing more shopping at KMart and Target that still has their layaway program.

It is company wide. They say it costs too much money for them to keep it.
Well, K-Mart & Meijer just had a nice chunk of my money put into their accounts. I just did all the majority of my Christmas shopping at those two stores.
Sorry about Wal-Marts luck.

Yes, but I cant figure out why, it was actually convenient for those of us that cant afford to buy everything all at once but like being able to go to the store and shop and feel like we have gotton something. It was very helpful at Christmas time. Does anyone know the reason for this change?

yes they are canceling it in every Wal-Mart. They lose money offering it. If you want to buy something, save your money. If you can't save your money, then too bad.
