I just had my first sonogram, I'm around 6 weeks so you couldn't see much, but the doc said she saw fetal heartbeat activity. Is this a good sign? Is it true once you see the heartbeat the risk of miscarrage decreases? Just curious. Thanks.

Of course it is good news that the baby has an active heart beat. But you're never really out of the clear for miscarriage. After 12 weeks, the risk goes down significantly, and after 16 weeks, it is very rare to miscarry. I don't think the heart beat is indicative of this at all because a 12 week fetus usually has a very active beat and can still have a high risk of miscarriage. But don't worry about it because stress only does the baby harm. Just be super happy that, right now, you're tiny little live-in buddy is doing fine. :)

Nope just because you see the heart beating does not mean that the risk for a miscarriage decreases. I girl can have one up to the end of her pregnancy. Toward the end it is call a still birth. Yes, it is a good sing though that you saw your baby's heartbeat all that means that so far it is developing normally, but things can change as the pregnancy continues. That is why they call birth a miracle because not all babies make it through it full term.

Once the heartbeat is present there's only a 2% chance of miscarrage. Congratulations.

It's good news to see your baby is developing well, but your risk for a miscarriage is still present, avoid strenuous activity, eat healthy food, don't smoke, drink or do drugs, stay stress free as possible and avoid rough sex. I had a mc at 16 weeks maybe that's why I like to play safe. You can continue with your normal life style just don't overdo it,
Good luck with your pregnancy and enjoy every minute of it

yes, congrats! But keep in mind between 6-18 weeks the heartbeat could slow and you still aren't "out of the woods" so to speak, but sound like everything is developing good, congrats again and be as healthy as possible!

no your miscarrage risk wont drop until the second trimester just try to take it easy these first few months. congrats
been trough this 3 times

honestly dont do the drugs had no drugs with the 1st and was in labor 15 min
second had drugs they had to use the vacuum and stuff lasted 8 hours
lsat one didnt get the drugs and 3 hours
plus i got really sick after the drugs believe me it is not worth it
the thing that helped me not get the drugs is my husband keeped reminding me that the baby probably wasnt enjoying the birth much either

it is always a good sign to hear the heart beat...but that doesn't mean you are in the clear for not having a miscarrage!! good luck though!

if the baby has a heartbeat then its great news- if you are ready for a baby. I am not sure if it means your miscarry chances are smaller or not but some advice to you to avoid a miscarrage would be to eat right, excersize- in moderation- don't smoke or drink or anything like that and try to avoid stress- also keep up with you doctors visits.

CONGRATULATIONS on your baby!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
