While this question is primarily for women, I also welcome answers from men.

How did this question come about... a gay friend of mine asked me to bear a child for him. he said that our child would be ours, joint custody. However the question has been answered correctly by everyone so far.

No.

I know it sounds mean, it sounds horrible, but it sounds like a perfect way to ruin your friendship and mess with your own mind.

You would be carrying her baby (and her partners), nine months of pregnancy affects you, it brings out your maternal instincts it does all sorts of things to you mind... and at the end of the nine months you have to hand that kid over to you buddy, you will have feelings for that kid.

What happens if further on down the line they make parenting decisions you don't like, or they move to another country, etc.....

If you were going to be a surrogate, wouldn't it be better to do it for a family you will never hear from again so as to sever all ties completely rather than leave things hanging in the air.

That is a good question. I can't have anymore kids so it's a moot point. If I were able it would depend on the people. If they were good friends and would make excellent parents I probably would. My kids are the best thing that has happend to me and it would be nice to help someone have that joy in their life.

I'm not sure that I would because I believe that there are too many people on this planet already and I support adoption over fertility services, including surrogate motherhood.

That is a very hard question! I would like to say that I would, but it would be so hard to go through that and not be able to keep the child.

Not for a friend. I might for a total stranger that I was never going to see again. It would be very difficult to hand a baby over to a friend & know you were going to see it every day calling her Mummy.

I would, if it could be like an open adoption where I can visit with the child. Otherwise, the gesture would feel empty.

I'm a human, not an icubator.

i sure would :-) i have had the joys of bringing 3 kids into the world and bringing them up and would leap at the chance to be able to give that joy to any friend of mine who needed it :-) i did actually offer to do it for a friend once she decided to try ivf for her 8th time first and she has just delivered a lovely bouncing baby boy yesterday :-)

Yes...I've done it. I done it 15 years ago for my sister..She couldn't have children of her own and she was so good with my own children it broke my heart when she found out she couldn't have any so it seemed the right thing to do and it certainly was. I would do it again if she asked me but alas she hasn't!!
