No. If you try to give a baby this young cereal it will probably make him so constipated and will not be good for baby's developing stomach. A baby should not be put on any type of solid food (cereal in the bottle included) till they are 6 months old unless your baby's dr. recommends it earlier. Some dr.'s may say 4 months is ok, but not any sooner.

Why would you want to give him rice cereal? Formula has all the nutrition he needs. Unless the doc gives and ok for some reason, don't give him the cereal. It is perfectly "safe" but research shows that the sooner you introduce solids, the higher incidence of juvenile diabetes and childhood obesity.

Assuming you mean rice cereal in his bottle, no. It is not safe. It's a choking hazard, and early introduction of solids (ie anything but breastmilk or formula before 6 months) can lead to a higher risk diabetes, allergies, obesity, and other problems.

Why is he the size of a 3 month old? Are you over feeding him? How can a 5 week old be the size of a 3 month old? You're going to raise him to be overweight.

My doctors have always told me to hold off until 6 months to give my girls rice cereal. I would suggest waiting until 4 months at the earliest.

No, this isn't safe. There is an article in parents magazine about this. There is a big misconception that a bigger kid needs more food. Not true. This can lead to so many problems when they get older like obesity. Keep the baby on just formula or breastmilk.

Good question. My quess would be no. I wouldn't, it's easier to get a baby on a feeding schedual than a young child. If you start feeding him now, he will want more and more and pretty soon, you will hold the record for the biggest 5 month old baby. If you are breast feeding him, only allow 10 minutes on both breasts. Or a 4oz bottle. See if that will work.

They won't be able to properly digest anything but breastmilk or formula. Stick with that until at least 4 months old. He'll learn to go longer between feedings and will gain weight just fine. Once he's on a schedule you'll feel better. Just relax and have fun getting to know him.
